Struggling restaurant chain Prezzo has listed the branches that will close for good as part of a rescue deal triggered by the Covid pandemic.
The company said 216 jobs are at risk, with 22 restaurants to permanently shut their doors – with no plans to reopen once lockdown restrictions are relaxed.
It becomes the latest Covid high street casualty, with hospitality rivals Carluccio’s, Byron and Gourmet Burger Kitchen also closing stores and reducing headcounts to account for losses since last March.
Almost 10,000 licensed premises – including pubs, clubs and restaurants – closed permanently last year as the coronavirus crisis hammered the hospitality sector, according to figures from business advisory firm AlixPartners.
UKHospitality – which regulates the industry – previously said 640,000 jobs were lost during the same period, despite government support, including furlough and business grants, to ease lockdown pain.

Cain International, which rescued Prezzo in December, said a pre-pack deal will help secure its long-term future amid “heightened economic uncertainty”.
The owner said the move will protect the vast majority of Prezzo’s 2,900 workforce.
Jonathan Goldstein, chief executive of Cain, said: “We firmly believe that strong hospitality businesses, such as Prezzo, have a bright future and will play an essential role in reviving the UK economy.
“However, to do so, we must get through this current crisis of mounting liabilities and no revenues.
“The lack of visibility on when and how the sector will reopen has heightened economic uncertainty to the point where decisive action had to be taken to secure the future of the business and the majority of jobs for Prezzo’s people.
“We are deeply sorry for all those affected by the permanent closure of the 22 non-viable restaurants.
“It was a difficult, but essential, decision to take but doing so will allow us to save thousands of jobs and create more in the future.”
