Convicted car theft gang leader Raymond Dominguez passed away in prison, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Friday.
BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said Dominguez was found lifeless in his cell at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City at 6:20 a.m. Friday.
“It appears that he died of natural causes. But we will wait for the medico-legal report,” Chaclag said. “No sign of foul play is noted.”
In a message to reporters, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he instructed the BuCor to submit a report on the matter “immediately.”
Last July, the BuCor quashed rumors that Dominguez had succumbed to COVID-19.
The bureau, however, confirmed that the high-profile inmate had contracted the disease.
In April 2012, Bulacan Judge Wilfredo Nieves found Dominguez, suspected leader of the Dominguez carjack gang, guilty of carjacking in 2010.
Dominguez also faced charges for other high-profile crimes including the carjack-murder of car dealer Venson Evangelista in 2011.
