PETALING JAYA: Umno will hold its 2020 annual general assembly on March 27 and 28 this year, says party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic).
This is following a decision made by the party’s supreme council.
“The 2020 annual general assembly will be a combination of physical and virtual meetings,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 23).
The general assembly was initially scheduled for Dec 6 and 7 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
On Jan 7, the party’s information chief Shahril Hamdan said that the supreme council had decided for a motion on severing ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and consolidating cooperation with PAS will be discussed in the general assembly.
Shahril said the decision was to enable the motion to be refined and decided at the highest level of the party, as provided in the party constitution.
Apart from the two urgent motions, the Umno division level meeting had proposed that the 15th General Election be held before the end of the first quarter of this year, to enable a new mandate to be returned to the people.
Ahmad Maslan assured that all the Covid-19 standard operating procedures involving the movement control order, recovery MCO and conditional MCO will be strictly complied.
On the party’s 75th anniversary celebration, various activities have been lined up for the event, he said.
Among them are poetry composition, short videos and logo competition.
