One frustrated user tweeted: “Samsung team my apps keep crashing since yesterday and the Android system WebView is disable already on my phone can’t remove it or do anything.what to do ??????”
Whilst another added: “Please help! Google apps keep crashing on Samsung galaxy s8. I am unable to install Android system webview app.”
Google has now released more advice on its help page for anyone who is suffering from the glitch. In a post the firm said: “In some rare cases in Android 10 or 11, a manual update of WebView or Chrome may fail to complete. Here are additional steps users can take to resolve the issue: Open your phone’s Settings app • Tap Apps & notifications > Google Play Store > Storage & cache > Clear Data
“Please note that doing this will clear some of your Play Store settings like parental controls, auto-update preferences, etc. Please recheck these settings after following these steps. Repeat the steps above to update WebView and Chrome.”
Google also confirmed that the Android team will be pushing automatic changes to users who still need updates over the next 24 hours which should resolve any remaining edge cases.
