PUTRAJAYA: An Internet disruption on the Putrajaya Campus Network (PCN) caused an interruption to the live stream for the media covering the appeal hearing of the SRC International Sdn Bhd case involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Tuesday (April 6).
The disruption, however, did not affect the proceedings in open court, said the Chief Registrar’s Office.
It said Wednesday (April 7) that the disruption occurred at the Palace of Justice, where the hearing is held at the Court of Appeal, and several other government agencies nearby between 10.30am and noon Tuesday.
“The disruption did not affect the recording of the court proceedings in open court where lawyers and the prosecution would be given soft copies of the recording after the proceeding ends,” the statement said.
PCN refers to the Internet access service for government agencies in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
The Chief Registrar’s Office was responding to a report by a news portal published Tuesday that said the live feed for journalists covering the hearing was interrupted for more than an hour.
Journalists covering the case have been placed in a different room where they could view the proceedings live and not in the open court to ensure that the Covid-19 SOP is adhered to and physical distancing could be observed.
The report said that the live feed was cut off at about 11.30am when Najib’s lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was making a submission on where High Court judge Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who convicted Najib, had erred in his judgment.
The Pekan MP’s daughter Nooryana Najwa also took to her Instagram account to speak about the live feed “blackout” and questioned why it was not covered in media reports.
On July 28 last year, Justice Mohd Nazlan sentenced Najib to 10 years jail on each of the three counts of CBT as well as each of the three counts of money laundering.
Najib, 68, is currently out on bail of RM2mil. He is appealing against his conviction and sentence.
The appeal hearing continues before the Court of Appeal panel this afternoon.
