
As South Africa braces itself for a possible third Covid-19 wave, the liquor industry appears to be fighting back against the government, releasing an analysis which questions the rationale behind its contentious liquor bans.
The industry has been at odds with the government over the series of bans and restrictions imposed on and off over the past year.
Keeping hospital beds free of alcohol-related trauma cases and available for Covid-19 patients was at the heart of the government’s decision. And, as the third wave looms in May, the conversation about the ban has picked up again.
