The Ford Maverick compact bakkie could be revealed in the next few weeks. According to Ford Authority, inside sources have indicated that the debut could take place during the first half of June.
The Ford Maverick will be positioned below the Ranger, but unlike the latter it will be based around a monocoque architecture shared with the Focus and Bronco Sport.

According to Ford Authority, the Maverick will be over 30 percent cheaper than the Ranger on the US market, with a projected starting price of $20 000, which equated to R275 000 at the time of writing. However, at this stage its not known whether the Maverick is destined for South Africa, or even if Ford will build it in right-hand drive format.
Ford has yet to confirm which engines will power the new compact bakkie, but Motor Authority believes Ford will offer a choice between a 134 kW 1,5-litre three-cylinder turbopetrol and a 186 kW 2,0-litre four-cylinder unit.
The engines will reportedly be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Ford will offer a choice between front-wheel drive and permanent all-wheel drive.

The Ford Maverick will be produced in Mexico from July this year, says Ford Authority. But dont expect to see any coming out of Silverton, as Ford South Africa has invested heavily in the production of the next-generation Ranger for local consumption and export.
The new Ranger is also likely to be revealed later this year, given that its set to go into production in 2022, alongside the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok.
