Officers from the British Transport Police spotted the balloon coming down and rushed to the scene, giving first aid to those involved before helping to get the balloon back under control.
Sharing a photo of the smash, BTP Nottinghamshire wrote on Twitter: “Now this isn’t something that happens very often. Whilst on patrol officers have witnessed a hot air balloon crashing in Sutton in Ashfield town centre.
“Officers have assisted with first aid, before helping get the balloon under control. #unexpected.”
The force later said they had dealt with a “possible broken nose”, “broken roof tiles” and a “damaged drain pipe”.
Worried onlookers were quick to comment, with one writing: “Hope everyone is ok”.
Someone else said: “So BTP really do cover all forms of transport”
Another quipped: “Not just trains”.
The Sun Online has approached the British Transport Police for comment.
