Following Prince Albert’s solo appearance at the Tokyo Olympics, while Princess Charlene remains in South Africa recovering from an ear, nose and throat infection, European tabloids have suggested the couple may be headed towards a split.
People quotes German magazine Bunte and France’s Paris Match, with the latter writing: “The princess has, for the time being, in reality, no intention of returning.” Bunte says the princess is house-hunting near Johannesburg.
A source tells the publication, however: “She’ll never leave her kids,” adding she believes the former Olympic swimmer will return to Monaco as soon as her health issues are resolved. In the meanwhile, Prince Albert and the twins — who visited Charlene in South Africa in June — plan on returning to visit mom in the near future.
The report comes shortly after Princess Charlene told Channel24 exclusively: “It’s been a trying time for me. I miss my husband and children dearly. What has been extremely difficult for me was when I was instructed by my medical team that I could not return home for my 10th wedding anniversary.
“Albert is my rock and strength,” she added, “and without his love and support I would not have been able to get through this painful time.”
