Nottingham Forest might have been handed a boost in their quest to complete the signing of Manchester United talent James Garner.
The Athletic understands that the Red Devils academy graduate is open to the idea of a return to the City Ground, amid interest from elsewhere.
Stoke, Derby, Reading and Swansea are all among the clubs chasing his sought-after signature. There is also some tentative interest from the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
It would seem as though Garner fancies a return to Forest though. He enjoyed a loan spell on Trentside during 2020/21 and would be keen to come back.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Coventry on the opening day of the campaign. That only served to highlight how desperately Forest are for reinforcements before the end of the month.
Garner was a revelation during the second half of last season. He fired four goals in 20 games for Forest and was largely impressive.
The Manchester United man has been featuring heavily during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pre-season campaign. It would appear that another loan move is on the cards though.
Forest hope to fend off their rivals and sign Garner prior to the end of the transfer window.
The 20-year-old is set for big things. He showcased as much during his time at Forest for the second half of last season.
He scored four times but his game was about far more than just scoring goals. His passing radar was superb and he worked well in tandem with Cafu in particular.

Forest are light in midfield and having someone with Garner’s quality in midfield would be a welcome boost.
The latest reports offer promise and the challenge for Forest now is to get the deal over the line before their rivals have a chance to do so.
