Gardaí have renewed an appeal for the driver of a vehicle which did not stop at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision in Co Mayo to come forward.
A 45 year-old man died after being seriously injured in the incident in Castlebar on Wednesday night. It is understood he was originally from eastern Europe but had been living here for some time.
He died after being hit by a vehicle on Humbert Way, on the outskirts of Castlebar, at around 11.50pm Wednesday.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on the man’s body at Mayo University Hospital yesterday evening.
Following a forensic examination of the crash site, detectives have been reviewing CCTV and dash-cam footage, in an effort to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
They have urged the motorist who left the scene to come forward and to contact any garda station.
