Two adults are in a critical condition following a serious crash between a car and a school bus on the Warrego Highway north-west of Toowoomba.
One of the critically injured adults suffered chest and head injuries.
Police said a car hit the school bus carrying 17 children about 10 kilometres from Wallumbilla around 3:00pm.
The Education Department confirmed in a statement that the bus was carrying students from Wallumbilla State School.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics said one child was in a serious condition with multiple fractures, while 16 other children were stable.
They had suffered injuries ranging from cuts and abrasions to fractures.
The two injured adults were trapped in the car.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews cut the door and roof of the car to reach them.
QAS said 19 of the 20 patients had been transported to Roma Hospital.
“Guidance officer support is being offered to all affected students that may require assistance,” the Education Department statement said.
