Western Australia has reintroduced “strict” new border controls with New South Wales, as the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the Bondi cluster grows to six.
Key points:

  • All new NSW arrivals to WA must self-quarantine immediately
  • They must isolate until returning a negative COVID-19 test
  • NSW arrivals since June 11 must also get tested if they feel unwell

Effective immediately, all travellers from NSW to WA must quarantine until returning a negative test result for COVID-19.
They must wear a mask when travelling home from the airport or when they leave to get a COVID-19 test.
Further to that, anyone currently in WA who visited any of the exposure sites in NSW during the relevant times should get tested immediately for COVID-19 and self-quarantine for 14 days from their date of exposure.
Anyone who has arrived from NSW since June 11 but has not been to the exposure sites has been advised to simply monitor their symptoms and get tested for COVID-19 if unwell.

Latest information from the WA Health Department
NSW situation ‘fast evolving’
Previously, arrivals into WA from NSW were only required to quarantine if they had been to one of the exposure sites.
The outbreak is linked to a transport worker who tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.
“The situation in NSW is fast evolving and concerning given the outbreak involves the Delta strain of the COVID-19 virus,” said Premier Mark McGowan.
“Based on the latest health advice, we’re introducing extra precautionary measures with immediate effect to protect Western Australians.”
Health Minister Roger Cook said the NSW outbreak was “very concerning.”
“It’s an important reminder for Western Australians to continue to follow the basic COVID-safe practices like checking in using the SafeWA app and staying home, and getting a test, if unwell,” he said.
Passengers onfive flights scheduled to land in Perth from Sydney today will need to comply with the new directions.
