McDonald’s Philippines has introduced its new strawless lids for its iced drinks in the company’s efforts to reduce waste.
The new feature, which will replace the flat lids used for beverages such as soft drinks and juices, is now being used in selected stores in Metro Manila.
According to the company, the shift in packaging follows the change in McDonald’s policy in the distribution of straws which started in 2018, where stores nationwide “limited the distribution of its straws to select cold beverages only.”
“By testing these strawless lids, we aim to continue our journey to reduce waste,” said McDonald’s Philippines corporate communications head Adi Hernandez.
“Through this change, we will be able make strides in our waste reduction strategy, while ensuring that our consumers are able to enjoy their iced cold drinks along with their favorite McDonald’s meals, one less straw at a time.”
